“I love reading comic books, but I also want to watch the Versus network more. What can I do?”
Has this ever happened to you? Well, fear not. The NHL, perhaps recognizing that the Winter Classic and HBO’s “24/7” were bringing hockey dangerously close to becoming cool, has partnered with Stan Lee to create “The Guardian Project.” Each NHL franchise will be given a “Guardian,” meant to embody the spirit of the city/franchise. Or something. It can’t be much worse than “X3,” right? Let’s dive in.
First up…The Penguin. According to his bio, of all the Guardians, The Penguin “is the least willing to be put in a box,” which is ironic, considering how quickly everything related to this project will soon be packed into boxes. He also “loves thinking about how to improve the world around him.” If I lived in Pittsburgh, I would probably spend my time thinking, “this has got to get better” too. It is not known what exactly The Penguin is Guardian-ing against, but I guess it’s not non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.
